Suggested Additional Equipment
(upon notification)
- music stand-a wire folding stand is usually
adequate; something more heavy duty is nice for the
Arbans and other heavy books
- metronome with subdivisions
of 8th, 16th, and triplets (Boss Dr. Beat DB 30 is highly recommended) also, there is a metronome
online
- tuner (Center Pitch Universal CP2 for band and orchestra is
highly recommended)
- Brass Buzzer-a device which allows mouthpice buzzing practice while holding
the horn in the usual fashion
- CD player-for playing along
with practice CDs or transcribing solos (Tascam VT-1) also, there is
audacity for working with
sound files on the computer
- mutes (Jo-Ral copper bottom straight,
Jo-Ral bubble wa-wa harmon,
Denis Wick adjustable cup, TrumCor super stealth practice)-essential for ensemble playing and late evening
practice (not used in lessons unless the subject of study is an
ensemble passage requiring a mute); there are other less expensive
mutes but these are the best (later upgrades won't be necessary due to
intonation and sound issues)
- musician's ear plugs Er-20's (for students who
play live music with loud, amplified bands) protect your hearing
now-you only get one set of ears!
- equipment alteration for
advanced students may include valve alignment, slide stopper extension
for the 3rd valve slide, mouthpiece throat and backbore alteration, or Meierhenry custom
pitch-finder assembly.
